1. Primarily flexographic printing

North America is a prime example of flexographic printing as the dominant technology for producing self-adhesive labels. The primary equipment consists of small- and medium-sized unit‑type printing units, predominantly using water-based inks, with web‑to‑web printing and rotary die‑cutting. This setup offers high production efficiency, advanced process technology, and compliance with environmental standards.

2. Half embossing, half flexographic printing

This processing method is predominantly used in Europe. Flexographic printing is employed at a rate broadly comparable to that in the United States, while letterpress printing accounts for 50% of applications; all letterpress operations utilize UV inks, and the equipment is mostly of the stack‑up or satellite type. The material‑handling approach likewise follows a web‑to‑web printing process.

3. Primarily embossed

This approach is predominantly adopted in the Asia-Pacific region. With a large share of developing countries, label printing in the region remains relatively underdeveloped; even when letterpress printing is employed, only a minority utilize UV‑ink equipment, while most label production still relies on a mix of resin‑based inks, web‑to‑web printing, and sheetfed processes. Given the high proportion of manual labeling, sheetfed offset printing for self‑adhesive labels is widely used, and flat‑bed die‑cutting is the dominant method.
